Orientation Bound

Welcome to our first attempt at blogging. We are beginning our adventures of voluntary service with Brethren Voluntary Service.

To overview what is coming in our life, we will flying on Sunday, January 24th to Orlando, FL to take part in a 3 week orientation in Gotha, FL at Camp Ithiel, a Church of the Brethren Camp. During this time it is planned that we will have various sessions on environmental issues, dealing with conflict, justice issues, paying attention at our projects and doing volunteer service projects around the area. During this time we will be finalizing our service assignment in Northern Ireland for the next two years.

At this point what we know about the assignment is that we will be living in Belfast working in a L'Arche community. L'Arche is a global organization that consists of small group homes for people with developmental disabilities and people without developmental disabilities to live and fellowship together. We do not know at this point at lot about our responsibilities day to day, but hope to learn much more at orientation.

We will return from orientation on February 12 to Bloomington, IL where Lucy's family is located. After this we are still unsure of the next steps. We'll be applying for Visas to live and work in Northern Ireland and the length of this process is still undetermined so our departure date is also still undetermined. Brethren Voluntary Service has estimated mid-March.

We will not have much access to internet at orientation so we will post about our experiences after we return. Please continue to pray for us during this transition time and during the many learning experiences at orientation. Thank you so much for your continued support.
